Can Chiropractic Care Really Treat Headaches?

Headaches; Can You Make Them Go Away?

Folsom Headaches Chiropractic ReliefYes! Chiropractic care is very effective when it comes to headaches.   In our chiropractic and wellness clinic in El Dorado Hill and Folsom we help a lot of our patients with headaches.   We all suffer from headaches at some point in our life, in fact it is estimated that less than 1% of us escape from headaches altogether.   The question is how long are you suffering from headaches and how severe is the pain.

Whether you suffer from migraine or tension headaches, your chiropractor can help you.

What is causing my headache?

There are many different things that cause headaches. For instance with migraines, certain foods or environments may trigger it and set off a chain reaction that result in a headache. If you carry a lot of stress and tension in your shoulders, this can also contribute to a headache.
Dehydration, trauma, prescription medications, and lack of sleep can all be factors that lead to
headaches.

How do chiropractic adjustments relieve headaches?

First your chiropractor will check your nervous system for any interference by finding
subluxations in your spine. A subluxation is an adaptation that puts tension on your
nervous system, which results in “faulty wiring” between the brain and the rest of the body.

Communication becomes less efficient between your brain and your body and sickness and dis-
ease can result. Once your chiropractor locates these subluxations, they will correct them by
using a very specific adjustment to restore the communication and function within your body. By
restoring motion, relieving muscle tension, and increasing brain firing via the adjustment, your
body is able to adapt and regain function, thereby eliminating your headache and preventing
them in the future.

What can I do to prevent my headaches from coming back?

  • Get checked by your chiropractor regularly
  • Stay well hydrated by drinking a lot of water and decreasing caffeine and alcohol intake
  • Recognize if there are triggers that set off your headaches and avoid these things
  • Exercise
  • Do something you enjoy in order to decrease stress

Is it okay to take NSAIDs like ibuprofen when I get a headache?

It is better to get adjusted first before you try NSAIDs that may have other side effects. NSAIDs
can be very destructive on your gastro intestinal system as well as your liver. And while your
headache may go away temporarily, NSAIDs are not really addressing the cause. They are only
masking the symptoms. Talk to your chiropractor about what they recommend. There is no
reason for you to suffer from recurrent headaches. Free your system of interference and your
body will take care of the rest!
